Room Descriptions

Going clockwise around the house

1. Reception Hall
Large room with two Georgian panelled windows, half panelled with original varnished wooden flooring. Marble fireplace with log grate, original ornate ceiling cornice and ceiling rose.

2. Staircase
Sweeping to the right this galleried staircase with mahogany handrail & balustrade, has a dramatic large curved top window, half panelled ascending to the top of the house, beautiful original ceiling cornice with large chandelier.

3. Drawing Room
Large room of grand proportions, approximately 35ft x 18ft with 14 ft ceilings, painted panelling floor to ceiling, extremely ornate ceiling cornicing and ceiling rose, large original marble fireplace with Sienna & Rosso marble, original wooden floorboards and 3 very large box sash windows. Panelling also has door mantels & corbels gilded in gold leaf.

4. Orangery
The original Orangery, unfortunately no longer has it’s glass lantern roof, many years ago replaced by a slate one, but still retains it’s charm being surrounded on 2 sides by original windows, ornate radiator covers, limestone floor, trompe l’eoil paintings on walls, Georgian style cabinet with sink, this room is currently used by the owners as a gym & recreational room, the room has the latest ‘Life fitness’ gym equipment as found in top quality gyms & spas. Doors lead out onto the terrace outside.

5. The Study
This room catches the early morning sun but the rest of the day has the atmosphere of a slightly darker more reflective room, half panelled with original ornate ceiling cornices and roses, skirting and architrave, varnished wooden floors. It also has the original carved wooden fireplace with an open log fire. Large door opens out onto the terrace at the back of the house.

6. Dining Room
Another large and symmetrical room, special attention to the large box sash windows with Venetian shutters, a fabulous invention of the Georgians where the middle shutters come up from the ground, it has a restored Georgian marble fireplace with log fire, original floors, half panelled, six panelled doors leading through to the hallway, reception hall, living room and kitchen.

7. Kitchen
A huge and very glamorous room, approximately 40ft x 25 ft. many large and unusual windows, all original box sash, the same ornate ceiling cornice as seen in the drawing room, parquet flooring, large marble fireplace with ornate brass grate, ornate painted kitchen with details such as fluted columns, Georgian roundels, dentil cornice and corbels. Centre Island with ‘Shaws’ Butlers sink and black granite work top, an additional Butlers sink is set into the hardwood work tops. Two external doors leading out to terrace and side garden . The room is spectacularly lit by 2 large chandeliers

8. Children’s Playroom
A colourful and imaginative space, with an unusual curved wall the wall have murals depicting a fairytale garden with flowers, butterflies and an enormous glistening fairy tale palace ! External door to side garden. This room also has an ensuite with children’s size W.C and sink.

9. Living Room
Set to the right of the front door this light room has the benefit of dual aspect, 3 large Georgian box sash windows, original working shutters, wooden floor, half panelled, ornate ceiling cornice & ceiling rose, carrera marble fireplace with brass grate, chandelier.

10. Master bedroom
A large and light dual aspect room with 3 box sash windows, large hand carved marble fireplace with log fire, half panelled, ornate ceiling cornice and ceiling rose, chandelier, doors to servants staircase as well as doors to main staircase. Solid cherry parquet flooring. This room has views over the front lawn and the woods opposite.

11. Master Bathroom
This exceptional room has a sottini rain bath in the centre of the floor, this is a replica of the original in Brocket hall, it has an additional frameless shower with high quality ‘Catchpole & Rye’ fittings in Nickel, the floor is a beautifully honed Travertine marble, walls are half panelled, large hand carved marble fireplace with log fire, throne seated W.C with accompanying bidet, his & hers sinks with Travertine marble top and nickel taps. Ornate cabinet with Georgian roundels, fluted columns and corbels. There are 2 large box sash windows, this room has wonderful views over the front lawn and over to the wooded Common.

12. Two further double bedrooms
Currently set up as children’s rooms and nursery, with pink & blue carpets and French painted furniture These two rooms could of course be for any use, both have original ceiling cornicing & ceiling roses, very large original windows with Venetian shutters, both have en-suites with cast iron roll top baths with high quality ‘Catchpole & Rye’ fittings in Nickel, handmade oak toilet seats, shower, porcelain tiled floors, half panelled walls, ornate ceiling cornicing & ceiling roses, unusual free standing sinks with legs and large windows with original working shutters. These rooms also benefit from stunning views of the rear garden.

13. The top floor has 5 further bedroom all of which are well proportioned, smaller ceiling heights than the rest of the house but still at a respectable 7ft high, rooms are all large, average size is about 20ft x 20 ft. All are decorated to a high standard with large fireplace, some cast iron some wooden.

14. There are an additional 2 bathrooms on this floor, both furnished in a period style with cast iron roll top baths, Victorian W.C, shower, unusual wash basins, tiled floors, rooms are half panelled and both have windows with views
